With sustainability improving operating profits by up to 60% (3), the link with business performance is well established. However, only 19% of UK organisations have fully implemented a sustainability strategy (1), suggesting there’s still a way to go.

Trailblazing a commitment to sustainability

Xerox created initial sustainability targets in 2003 and have accelerated action to achieve net zero by 2040, demonstrating a long-held focus on driving sustainable development. The Xerox roadmap to net zero includes projects to improve operational efficiency, create new technology innovations, and neutralise residual greenhouse gas emissions through carbon compensation mechanisms.

“At Xerox, we have long believed that businesses — like ours — play a critical role in protecting the health of the planet and that’s why we continue to take decisive action." Xerox CSR Report 2022

So, we’ve dipped into this pot of expertise to create some top tips to help accelerate your journey.

TOP TIPS

  1. Break down activities into key themes to share responsibility and maintain focus. Xerox focus includes energy efficiency, process improvements, supply chain, product design, aftermarket activities, and carbon neutralisation(4).

  2. Create base lines, targets and milestones to drive activity. Xerox summarises this in an overall roadmap which clearly visualises all the key information in one single view(4).

  3. Adopt a framework e.g. ISO (see below). ISO 14001 is an accreditation that also provides the basic planning structure. Xerox has also signed up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Race to Zero and the Science Based Targets Initiative Business Ambition for 1.5°C programmes(4) to inform approaches and policies.

  4. Use data for visibility. Data capture, digital working, and data insights support measurement, tracking and reporting. Xerox technologies help you to realise the power locked into the data in your organisation. Read more.

  5. Work with your suppliers and stakeholders. By continuing to work with supply chain partners to meet stringent environmental, health, and safety objectives, Xerox will have achieved an 85% reduction in emissions by 2030(4).

  6. Buy In. To be successful, you need everyone on board. Xerox has implemented training so employees understand how their jobs impact greenhouse gas emissions and take steps to reduce or eliminate them(4).
