Winning effort in region’s biggest children’s run

Winning effort in region’s biggest children’s run

Pupils from St Margaret’s in Horsforth carried off the primary school prize in the Arena Group Leeds Mini and Junior Run, organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All. Cockburn High School in Beeston, meanwhile, took the honours in the secondary school category.

Winner of the boys’ junior run for 9-14-year-olds was Alex Wyke-Ulliott. Harvey Norden, 11, took second place with 13-year-old Keiran Rowbuck third.

First girl across the line was Alisha Laidler, 13, followed by Megan Driscoll, 13, in second place and 11-year-old Megan Wyke-Ulliott came third.

Our Marketing Manager, Lisa Butterworth (pictured), visited both schools to present each of them with a Toshiba camcorder. She commented; "both schools have picked up the prize several times over the years. We're always so impressed by the effort that all of the youngsters make on the day, not only in terms of the race but also the fundraising they do for charity."

Arena has sponsored the Mini and Junior run series since it launched six years ago. Our sponsorship covers entry fees, making the race the biggest free mass participation children’s event in Yorkshire.

Youngsters who took part were encouraged to raise a small amount of money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal or another charity of their choice. This year the appeal supported Leeds-based charity SNAPS, which helps children with special needs and their families. It currently supports over 350 families a year.

The charity provides practical help and advice for families and stages hydrotherapy and drop-in sessions at the Penny Field School in Meanwood.

Mini and Junior Run event lead Lynne Preston said: “Once again the mini and junior runs were enormously popular and it was wonderful to see so many children running for such good causes. They should all be very proud of themselves. We are extremely grateful to everyone who took part and for the invaluable support of the Arena Group."
