Raising a cheer for the Leeds Arena Group Junior & Mini Runs

Raising a cheer for the Leeds Arena Group Junior & Mini Runs

Around 1500 youngsters got involved in this year's Arena Group Junior and Mini Runs in Leeds.

The mini and junior run is now in its sixth year. Arena Group's sponsorship makes it the biggest free mass participation children’s event in Yorkshire.

This year's event supports Leeds-based charity, SNAPS, which helps children with special needs, and their families.

Congratulations to our winners!

The winner of the boys’ Junior Run – for 9 to 14 year olds – was Alex Wyke-Ulliott, 14, with Harvey Norden, 11, in 2nd and Keiran Roebuck, 13, in 3rd.

Top of the tree for the girls’ was Alisha Laidler, 13, with Megan Driscoll, 13, in 2nd and Megan Wyke-Ulliott, 11, in 3rd

Congratulations also go to the winners of our Schools Team Challenge. First place in the Mini Run went to St Margaret's C of E Primary School in Horsforth, whilst the Junior race was won by Cockburn School.

Arena Group Managing Director Adrian Fitzpatrick said: “It was great to see so many children taking part in the Leeds Mini and Junior Run. We are delighted that our sponsorship allows youngsters to run for free.

“They all should be applauded for the great effort they have made and it is particularly pleasing to know that event has raised lots of money to support the excellent work of SNAPS.”

York Junior and Mini Runs - August 3rd

This year’s York runs will be held at 11.45am on Sunday August 3rd. There are two distances – 2.5km for youngsters aged 9-14 and 1.5km for children aged 3-8 – with both routes finishing on Knavesmire Road near the racecourse. Mini run participants must be accompanied around the route by an adult. All finishers receive a medal.

Children taking part are encouraged to raise a small amount of money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal or another charity of their choice. This year the Appeal is supporting York Carers Centre’s Young Carers’ Service, which supports children aged between 8 and 18 who help care for a parent or sibling with either a physical or mental illness.

About Run For All

Run For All is part of Jane Tomlinson’s lasting legacy. Jane Tomlinson CBE raised £1.85m for children’s and cancer charities before her untimely death from cancer aged just 43 in 2007. She made headlines across the world by competing in a series of epic endurance challenges from the London Marathon, ironman and triathlon competitions, to a 4,200 mile cycle ride across the width of the USA – despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Her family are now on course to take that total to £5m in her memory.
