Guidance and support for safe and compliant toner cartridge disposal

Guidance and support for safe and compliant toner cartridge disposal

When we install your device, you will be supplied with a toner recycle box for easy and legally compliant disposal of your used toner cartridges.

Best estimates states that over 45 million toner and inkjet cartridges are used in the UK each year! The majority of this ‘waste’ is dumped into landfills in the emerging countries around the world. On average 2.5kg of CO2 emissions are saved by recycling an old cartridge as opposed to recycling a new one – that’s a potential saving of over 100 million Kg of CO2 each year in the UK

Printer cartridges that contain electrical parts and are dependent on electric currents or electromagnetic fields in order to function properly now fall within scope of the WEEE directive, meaning they need to be disposed of in line with current WEEE regulations. (All the above options comply).

Cartridges can be identified by means of the crossed out wheelie bin sticker. Printer cartridges that merely consist of ink and a container, without electrical parts, do not fall within the scope of the Directive.

Arena recommends that you recycle ALL cartridges, as some earlier types may not have the identifying wheelie bin sticker symbol on them but may still contain electrical circuits requiring specialist disposal complying with WEEE regulations. Find out more about WEEE regulations here:
