City of Lincoln sees a cracking start to the Arena Group Mini and Junior Run For All Series

City of Lincoln sees a cracking start to the Arena Group Mini and Junior Run For All Series

Hundreds of youngsters braved chilly temperatures to take part in the first ever Arena Group City of Lincoln Mini and Junior Run For All last weekend.

The fun got underway on Saturday when crowds turned out to cheer on children aged from 3-14 years who ran to raise money for a variety of charities, including the official partner charity, St Andrew’s Hospice.  All the youngsters crossing the finish line received a goody bag, T-shirt and medal to go with their sense of achievement.

First boy across the finish line in the 2.8km mini run was Harry Denton followed by Ed Parry in second and William Webb in third. Emily Crookes won the girls mini run, Eleanor Clarkson was second and Molly Warburton came third.

The 5K boys junior run was won by Harrison Wood who finished ahead of Jack Stocks in second with Jordon Blight taking third place. The girls junior run was won by Lucy Thornton, Rachel Nealon came second and Ellanor Brown took third place.

Cllr Donald Nannestad, Portfolio Holder for Recreational Services and Health at the City of Lincoln Council, who took part in the event, said: “A beautiful city like Lincoln lends itself to events such as this. The spectators helped generate a great atmosphere which I’m sure all the runners appreciated.”

Adrian Fitzpatrick, Arena Group managing director, said: “Our first involvement with the City of Lincoln mini and junior runs has gone really well and we are delighted. It was fantastic to see so many children running and raising money for charity.”

Children taking part in the Mini & Junior Runs are encouraged to raise a small amount of money to help a local cause. They can choose any charity – or support the official partner charity. In 2015, the run will be supporting St Andrew’s Childrens’ Hospice.

St Andrew’s Hospice is the only children’s hospice in Lincolnshire and provides care for children and young adults who have a life limiting illness across the county. The Hospice provides specialist respite care on an in-patient and day-care basis, pain and symptom control and end of life care. The Hospice also provides care and support for the patient’s family, including practical and emotional support, special care for siblings and bereavement support. The service costs £1.8m a year to run – with only a tiny 3% of it coming from Government funding.

Angela Greenfield, Events Co-Ordinator for St Andrews Hospice, commented; “We’re really pleased to have been chosen as the official charity of the Arena Group Mini & Junior Run For All. We support around 90 children or young people and their families each year, who are all going through the toughest experience you can imagine.”
