Chamber recognises Arena Group for positive social impact

Arena Group’s commitment to positive social impact and corporate social responsibility has been recognised by the Chamber of Commerce in the Raising the Bar Awards.

Since its founding over 25 years ago, community-focused activities have remained high on the agenda, with people-based values strongly embedded in the fabric of the business culture and are aligned with the focus on creating a strong team of ‘Arena People’ that ensure the company stands out from the crowd and makes this a great place to work.

All Arena employees are encouraged to spend two annual working days supporting local charity and community projects from school-based life and skills support to supporting local hospices and community projects.

Arena has sponsored the Jane Tomlinson Arena Group Junior Run and Mini Fun Run, paying the entry fees for every young competitor, enabling over 3,000 to take part. This makes the event the largest free-to-enter race series for young people in Yorkshire and beyond. Arena is also a long-standing supporter of Child-Friendly Leeds and the One in a Million in Bradford.

Arena encourage individual and team fundraising efforts, match funding all employees’ charity donations. And last year took on the biggest charity challenge in its history, raising over £32,000 in a 25th anniversary fundraising challenge for local hospices.

Sandy Needham, Chief Executive of the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “These awards highlight businesses who are acting responsibly and encouraging colleagues to get involved in whatever way is right for them from helping with employment, linking with education or raising funds.”

Laura Gawthorpe, Arena’s HR Manager comments, “I have been so proud of our people this year in particular, they have all pulled together to do something really special for our local communities to celebrate our 25th year. The real icing on the cake has been to be announced as winners in this competitive category in recognition of this hard work.”
