Arena series for young runners kicks off in Lincoln

Arena series for young runners kicks off in Lincoln

Hundreds of youngsters are already preparing for the Arena Group Lincoln Mini and Junior Runs to be held in the city on March 17th as part of the popular Lincoln 10k weekend.

The Lincoln mini and junior runs mark the start of the season of race events organised by Run for All and sponsored by Arena Group. The youngsters will be joined by the popular Arena Owl mascot and other members of the Arena team.

Children aged between 3 and 15 will take part in this annual event which, with Arena's backing, ensures they can run for free enjoying this key event in the city's calendar and participating in healthy activity with family and friends. Many support local charities and other causes close to their hearts. This year’s official partner charity is Action for Children, who support disadvantaged children and families by providing short break services for children and young people with disabilities.

Among those getting ready are pupils from Ingham Primary School who are aiming to defend their title as winner of the Primary School competition in 2017. Pupils notched up the average fastest finishers in the 2.5km run and won a video camera for the school.

Ingham Primary Senior Teacher Jackie Peacock said: “The Mini and Junior Runs are great events and we’ve loved taking part in the them. The children last year had a fantastic time and I’d encourage all Lincoln schools to get involved.”

The Mini and Junior Runs include three distances for all ages: a 1.5K course for children aged three to eight, accompanied by an adult, a 2.5k route for 9-14-year-olds and a 5k course for youngsters aged 11-15.

Last year, the Priory Academy LSS took first place in the Secondary Schools 2.5k event while the William Farr School at Welton were the fastest over 5k, also in the Secondary School category.

Adrian Fitzpatrick, Managing Director, of Arena Group, explains, "The Arena Group Mini and Junior Runs are a favourite part of our year. It’s great to see the youngsters getting active and getting involved."

“They really throw themselves into it and see their excitement and enthusiasm is really infectious. We’re looking forward to meeting the hundreds of youngsters who will be taking part in the Lincoln events this year.”

Tristan Batley Kyle, Head of Events at organisers Run For All, said: “The Mini and Junior events are a brilliant part of the City of Lincoln 10K and the perfect opening to our 2018 season. We’re already looking forward to welcoming our young runners on event day.”

Arena's partners and event organisers Run For All form part of the legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson who raised nearly £2m for charity despite being diagnosed with incurable cancer.

Everyone is welcome to cheer on the young runners and meet Arena Owl. You can also follow the day on Twitter and post your own pre-race preparations and on the day fun @ArenaGroup #RunWithArena.
