Arena achieves ISO14001 certification

The Arena Group has achieved ISO14001 certification, the international standard for Environmental Management Systems, becoming the first Toshiba office equipment dealer in the UK to do so.

We have been working towards the standard for 12 months, which has involved examining the ways in which the activities of the group impact upon the environment.

Colin Grave, Partner at Arena Group, who has been leading the project, commented: “Our customers can now be assured of the following; we recycle nearly all of our waste, packaging sent to customers is being stripped to an absolute minimum, reduced energy and water usage targets are being met, and all traded-in office machinery is either being reconditioned for resale, cannibalised for parts or recycled legally under the WEEE Directive”.

Aside from the obvious environmental benefits, introducing these measures will also have cost reducing side-effects in the future. For example, introducing a minimum fuel economy of 40 miles per gallon for all fleet vehicles.

BSI spokesperson Vicki Gomersall said: “More and more organisations are seeing ISO 14001 as providing a structured approach to the management of environmental performance and legal compliance within their organisations. ISO 14001 focuses the organisation on being proactive in identifying environmental aspects and impacts and driving down risks. In doing so, an organisation can benefit from improved operational effectiveness leading to reduced costs and improved profits, as seen by the Arena Group”.
